Prestonwood Worship goes big with its latest worship album, Songs of the People. Big meaning the big name singers and worship leaders such as Paul Baloche and Michael W. Smith that lend their musical excellence to this project. Big meaning the mass choir of 500 voices praising God as one voice, and big meaning how one local church with two locations in Texas praises God in such a big way through the uplifting music of this album.
Songs of the People sounds just like one might expect with its modern worship pop band fully backing an array of catchy, singable melodies with lyrics that reach out to God in praise, in worship, and in the desire to grow closer to him. Musically, this album does not fall short of the level of expertise one would expect from Prestonwood’s Dove Award winning Worship Leader Michael Neale (“Your Great Name”). However, the true success of Songs of the People lies in the real people who are singing in real worship of a very real God with music that was born of the work God at Prestonwood Baptist Church.
“Songs of the People,” featuring Michael Neale and Paul Baloche, depicts the church coming together in praise of God while “Your Love Is Our Favorite Song” joyfully sings of God’s attributes. “Let the Redeemed” features Prestonwood’s mass choir in a theatrical chorale style anthem. “We Are Alive” features the unmistakable voice of Michael W. Smith and focuses on the bride of Christ, his church, a fitting close to this album written for the church of God to sing to him.
Sounds like: Prestonwood Worship embraces the contemporary modern worship genre with excellence through big name artists backed by both mass choir and a standard worship band, making Songs of the People an album of worship music both for and by the local church today.
