Ah, I remember that classic line from The Incredibles: “(There’s) no school like the old school!” William McDowell brings strong evidence that it is indeed the case on his two-CD sophomore release, Arise. The double disc set calls to memory the best of the Ron Kenoly and Alvin Slaughter era—a fitting legacy for McDowell, who, during his student years, served as Kenoly’s Music Director.

More: Special guests (including Martha Munizzi and her twin sister, Mary Alessi) join an already impressive band and vocal team to create an inspiring blend of classic styles. McDowell is also an experienced producer, and he seamlessly weaves together the various pieces of this live event.

Less: As stated above, Arise is old school. Those looking for the latest trends won’t find them here. Those looking for solid worship in a well-established genre will get a double helping of solid and inspiring worship leading, seamless production, and top-notch musicianship.
