Jonathan Butler
Rendezvous Music

South-African born contemporary urban jazz artist Jonathan Butler delivers yet another stunning collection of songs in his latest gospel CD, entitled Grace and Mercy. The first four tracks are what you might expect for this style, with the funky rhythms, background vocals and of course Jonathan’s smooth, yet distinctive voice. But then, Jonathan delivers the power ballad and first single “I Stand on Your Word,” which delivers the message of hope he says is the main goal of this album. Other notable tracks include “I Know That He Cares,” another uplifting ballad, and “Moments of Worship,” a medley of worship tunes that highlight Jonathan’s amazing acoustic guitar skills. For R&B and gospel fans, this record will surely bring hope and delight.

More: Jonathan Butler’s amazing vocal and guitar skills are allowed to shine on this latest batch of original songs, and with such a wide range of styles represented by these 11 songs, there is surely something here to please everyone.

Less: Non-gospel music fans may not resonate with lyrics that are repetitive, but that is a stylistic preference, and there’s no doubt that Jonathan Butler is one of the best jazz, pop and gospel artists around.
