There has been a trend as subtle as a tidal wave sweeping across gospel and worship centered music. The revered hymn is making a contemporary comeback. Such artists as Mike Donehey of Tenth Avenue North, Mark Hall and Casting Crowns, Steven Curtis Chapman, Matthew West, Kari Jobe, Building 429, Michael W. Smith, The Newsboys and Matt Maher have collaborated to create Jesus, Firm Foundation: Hymns of Worship, arguably the best compilation since the 2000 TV soundtrack, Music Inspired by Jesus: The Epic Mini-Series.The title track “Jesus, Firm Foundation” leads off the album and sets a perfect pace. The heartfelt “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus (Look Up)” with Nicole Nordeman is one of the gems of the album, while “Be Still My Soul (In You I Rest)” sung by Kari Jobe is a powerful journey of reflection and reverence. On “My Jesus, I Love Thee (Your Holy Name),” Building 429 uses thoughtful instrumentation and poetic guitar playing to bring life and joy to this classic ballad.

Jesus Firm Foundation is about hymns and about Him. Andy Cherry on “Nothing but the Blood” and Hillsong on “Cornerstone” round out a cast of artists and hymns that really move each song forward with a passion and reverence certain to cross genres and age groups. This is an ambitious project and worthy of the highest accolades and praise. As the trend toward hymns arise, Jesus Firm Foundation may very well set a new standard in collaboration and excellence and influence worship music for years to come.

More: Jesus Firm Foundation may very well set a new standard in collaboration and excellence and influence worship music for years to come.

Less: Nothing to say here. This is an excellent project from start to finish.
