With Phil Sillas at the helm as producer, a prominent group of Spanish worship leaders known as Cantos De Alabanza has released Mi Corazon Canta, a wonderful album featuring some of today’s best-loved songs of praise and worship sung entirely in Spanish. This album features singers from the Dove-award winning group, including Lily Cruz, Mark Gutierrez, Priscila Romero, and Alfonso Hernandez, along with other Latin CCM artists such as Christine D’Clario, Omar Galarza and others. These arrangements are very well done, with a high production value. Many of the songs take on a whole new Latin-infused flavor, while maintaining the lyrical integrity of the original version. The band does an amazing job as well, providing an excellent support for this talented group of singers.

More: The concept of this project is commendable, to take these well-loved worship songs that have impacted so many people, and make them available in Spanish as a tool for worship leaders to use in their congregations. Songs such as Hillsong’s “Desert Song,” Gungor’s “Beautiful Things,” Tomlin’s “Jesus Messiah,” and others are accurately translated, so the lyrics remain strong and powerful. Also notable are the salsa versions of “Miracles Still Happen” and “Te Alabo (I Will Praise You).”

Less: Of course, whenever songs are translated, there will also need to be some rhythmic changes in the lyrics to make the new lyrics fit, and just from listening to it, it’s hard to say whether some of the lyrics flow as easily. But, the bottom line is that these fantastic songs of worship can now be enjoyed and incorporated into the worship experiences of our Spanish-speaking brothers and sisters, and Cantos De Alabanza have captures the essence of the songs in passionate, beautiful cries of worship.
