Singer/songwriter and speaker Joshua Price recently released his Nothing Without You EP, featuring six original worship songs focusing on the themes of unexpected grace and God’s faithfulness. Produced by Conrad Johnson of Interia Sound Studios in Florida, this Kickstarter-funded project kicks off with the upbeat “Yahweh,” based on Exodus 3, where God says to Moses, “I Am Who I Am,” and is a reminder that we serve a caring, yet powerful God. With a bright Phil-Wickham-type voice, Price delivers a compelling and straightforward message in this song and the other two upbeat praise songs “Live For You” and “You Are Good.” What stands out most is Joshua’s believability and authenticity in the lyrics. The best example of this is in the title track, “Nothing Without You,” written after his brother’s tragic death in a car accident. The theme of depending on God in all circumstances comes through, especially with lines like “I’m not defined by circumstance/with You there’s nothing left to chance/but I’m still torn apart.” This slide guitar led country-like shuffle is one of the strongest tracks on the EP. Overall, Nothing Without You definitely displays Price’s determination to honor God through his gift of music, and was well worth all of those Kickstarter campaign pledges.
More: This is a highly polished and produced studio album, yet it still maintains a heart-felt truthfulness on most songs.
Less: “Not Good Enough” seems a bit forced in its edgy style and lyrical content and doesn’t match the tone of the rest of the EP.
