Music Review | “Act Justly, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly” By Pat Barrett

Randy Cross

From Chris Tomlin’s Bower & Bow partnership with Capitol CMG comes the next project by worship leader and songwriter Pat Barrett, his second full-length album titled Act Justly, Love, Mercy, Walk Humbly. The “Build My Life” and “Good Good Father” writer brings a 17-track album of easy-on-the-ears reflections about life in our world and the God who created it. Infusing Jackson Browne like vocals with lyrics intended to encourage and uplift, this Scripture-inspired album features worship veteran Chris Tomlin partnering with Barrett on the worship chart “As For Me” and new comer
Harolddd on the blues/jazz sounds of “Lightning.”

With each successive track, you discover new songs for your particular worship environment. There are songs included that could be quickly incorporated into your gatherings at the coffee house (“So Real,” “Lightning,” “Slow and Steady”), pub (“Heavenly”) or the traditional church setting (“Act Justly, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly,” “As for Me,” “By the Spirit,” “No Weapon,” “This is the Day,” “Praise Upon Praise”).

More: There is an incredible variety of styles for your listening pleasure and God’s honor. With 17 tracks, there is something for most modern worshipers to embrace as they enter God’s presence.
Less: With all of this music, the instrumentation, even with the diverse tracks, seems to make the album less nuanced.
