Music Review | “The Blessing” By Kari Jobe

Randy Cross

With 32 million views on YouTube and 70 million global audio streams of the single “The Blessing,” Kari Jobe roars onto the musical landscape with the full length worship experience, The Blessing. Recorded live at The Belonging Co, Jobe and husband Cody Carnes’ home church in Nashville, the album features over 100 minutes of absolute praise, including the title track as well as moments of spontaneous praise to Jesus.

Jobe says about “The Blessing” and its response during a world-wide pandemic, “God is a God of His word and this song is straight from scripture. I love how He never changes and is always with us and for us. That brings so much peace, especially in a season of disappointment, uncertainty, and fear like we have all been walking through this year. ‘The Blessing’ is the truth that we can declare daily over our lives, families, and others. So grateful.”

The title track is just a small taste of what is in store as you find yourself swept up in the awestruck atmosphere of praising the One True God while listening to The Blessing. The Elevation Worship veteran submits “Your Nature” as a musical soundtrack to the exploration of how good God is to us harkening back to The Dove Award Song of the Year, “Way Maker.”  She partners with Cody Carnes on “Obsession,” crying out with straightforward and effortless, “My heart burns for You…”

The Blessing serves followers of The Way as they navigate the complexities of our season, boldly approaching the “Throne Room” and capping off with the declarative “Anthem of Praise.”

More: The Blessing is to be experienced and shared. It provides a momentous amount of music that is directly focused on the main thing…worshiping Jesus!

Less: The Blessing is a marathon album of incredible praise. A casual listener and fan of Kari Jobe will be encouraged, yet may want to take the album in meaningful portions, instead of all at one sitting.
