Christine D’Clario Trades In Worry And Starts Dancing

Christine D'Clario
  • Throughout Scripture, ashes signify our human condition. Ashes remind us that trials produce humility, and sacrifices can bring about renewal.

This scripture that Christine D’Clario references from Isaiah shows us that there is no destructive force in this world that is greater than the redemptive power of our Savior. Lia Martin tells us that, “throughout Scripture, ashes signify our human condition. Ashes remind us that trials produce humility, and sacrifices can bring about renewal.

Beauty for ashes, or “a crown of beauty instead of ashes,” is a scriptural promise detailed in Isaiah 61. Where it had been customary to don sackcloth and sit in ashes during times of grief and repentance, Isaiah announces that God has sent him to proclaim good news for the poor, freedom for prisoners, and comfort for the brokenhearted.”

So, when we can dance and praise him and cast our cares upon him, we are showing the devil that we trust our Savior and his Word and will not live in fear post-pandemic. It’s an encouragement that can be hard to wrap our minds around, but once we release our fears and worries, we can dance, dance, dance as we’ll be filled with the joy of the Lord.

Isaiah 61

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord hath anointed Me to preach good tidings unto the meek. He hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound,

2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn,

3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He might be glorified.”

I feel that during pandemic and all of the crazy debacle socially and politically that happened after, the church has forgotten to laugh, has forgotten to dance, and has forgotten in many ways that God is still good. We’ve become anxious because we’ve been traumatized. It’s a very normal reaction, but I think we need to remember that we can still dance on the ashes.

And it’s it’s it’s beautiful that the Lord does bring beauty for ashes, that He changes our grief and our sorrow to dancing. And when we start dancing and letting Him do the worrying, the atmosphere changes, things change. Our life literally changes. I’m going and dancing season in my life. I’m in a like “hands in the air, wave ’em like you just don’t care” season.

You want to dance with me? No, that’s fine. I’ll do my own little two-step over here.
