Worship Team Devotional Moses Fear Courage

No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you. Be strong and courageous… ~ Joshua 1:5-6a (NASB)

When God calls you into His service, you can be sure that the calling comes with promises that are meant to produce in you a courageous heart. Joshua experienced God’s miraculous deliverance of Israel out of Egyptian bondage through the leadership of Moses. And when Joshua was chosen to be one of the twelve spies to explore the promised land, he and Caleb were the only ones to return with a good report – expressing full confidence that God was with them, in spite of the fearsome giants.

Decades passed. Moses was dead. And it was time for Joshua to take up the daunting task of leading God’s people into possession of the land. It would require strength and renewed faith. So God made this extraordinary promise to Joshua:

“For I will be with you as I was with Moses.”

Perhaps you’ve felt strong and prepared to obey God in previous seasons, but now you feel unprepared for a new one? Maybe you are plagued by a sense of personal weakness and fear? God has the perfect antidote. Remember His past faithfulness, and rely on present nearness. This is what produces a courageous heart! After all, we are called to be people of His presence, not followers of our feelings.

A PRAYER

“Heavenly Father, thank You for Your high call on my life in Christ Jesus. In spite of how I may feel, I choose to trust you and step out in obedience to your Word and the leadership of the Holy Spirit. I give you praise for your past faithfulness, and the promise of your abiding presence today.

Produce in me a courageous heart! In the strong name of Jesus, Amen.
