At the center of what Jesus said, all the law and the prophets hang on “love the Lord your God, with heart, soul, mind, and strength.” It’s this old Jewish concept called the Shema and the Hebrew language loves phonetics. There’s often this relationship between the sounds of a word and its intended kind of understanding.

Um, and so I think it’s really important that at the center of loving God with our whole selves, is this sound, shhhh. You know, there’s this idea of quiet and that’s kind of the Shema,, this kind of hush and here. So I would say if we were to not sing, if we were to sort of come together in a night of worship, I think it would consist of a lot of quiet for maybe an extended period of silence past the awkward point and, and then a time of sharing and praying for one another, uh, beyond that.
