Brent McCorkle: You Are a Soul in an Earth Body

God is calling us to let go.

When one thinks of the heroes of worship in the Bible, who are some of the characters that come to mind? Abraham? Of course, he was a great man of faith and the first official “worshipper” in the Bible. (Genesis 22:1-19) King David? Well, he wrote most of the Psalms, which our modern Christian songwriters use to supplement their own lyrics, so that makes sense.

But what about Job?

Job 1:19-21 (ESV) – 19 and behold, a great wind came across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young people, and they are dead, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” 20 Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”

Brent McCorkle is a songwriter, composer, worship leader, editor, and film director. He recently Co-Directed the popular film, The Jesus Revolution, and shares an introspective story about how Job changed the way he looks at worship, and in turn changed his life, forever.

Who is Brent McCorkle?

Director/Writer/Composer Brent McCorkle makes films that are known for their heartfelt and visually compelling storytelling. Prior to co-directing JESUS REVOLUTION, Brent co-wrote, co-edited, directed 2nd unit, and composed the original score on the Kingdom Story Company Lionsgate hit, I CAN ONLY IMAGINE. The faith-based family film starred Dennis Quaid and J. Michael Finley, was theatrically released in 2018, and grossed over $83 million at the box office.

McCorkle’s first project with the Erwin Brothers was WOODLAWN, a sports drama based on the true story of Miami Dolphins superstar running back Tony Nathan. When Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, Alabama, was controversially desegregated in 1973, Nathan became the first black football superstar in Alabama and is credited with helping to unify the mainly white football team at a time when racial tensions were high. Starring Sean Astin, Nic Bishop, Caleb Castille, Sherri Shepherd, and Jon Voight, WOODLAWN is directed by the Erwin Brothers, with McCorkle serving as co-editor and co-composer.

McCorkle’s feature film directorial debut was the biographical drama UNCONDITIONAL, which starred Michael Ealy and Lynn Collins. In addition to writing, directing, editing, and co-scoring the film, UNCONDITIONAL was also nominated for Outstanding Independent Motion Picture by the NAACP Image Awards in 2013.
A credited screenwriter on UNCONDITIONAL and I CAN ONLY IMAGINE, Brent has also composed original score scores for UNCONDITIONAL, I CAN ONLY IMAGINE, WOODLAWN and STEVE MCQUEEN: AMERICAN ICON. Brent co-directed JESUS REVOLUTION.
