Colton Dixon’s Devotional: Finding God’s Plan in Jeremiah 29:11
In the latest episode of The Walk Podcast, Worship Leader Magazine welcomed back the talented Christian artist Colton Dixon. Known for his powerful vocals and faith-infused lyrics, Colton shared a deeply personal devotional centered around the scripture Jeremiah 29:11 and its impact on his life and music.
Colton’s newest song, “Up + Up,” serves as both a personal testimony and an artistic exploration of God’s promises. He anchors the song in the well-known verse Jeremiah 29:11, which declares, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This verse, full of hope and divine assurance, challenges believers to trust in God’s plan even amidst life’s uncertainties.
Throughout the devotional, Colton emphasized four key insights drawn from this scripture:
- Tuning Into the Right Frequency: Colton likened understanding God’s plan to tuning into the correct radio station. Just as Romans 10:17 tells us that “faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ,” Colton urged listeners to immerse themselves in Scripture daily. This, he suggested, is crucial for discerning God’s voice amidst the noise of the world. He further highlighted the importance of filtering out the negative voices that seek to distract us from God’s truth.
- Recognizing the Enemy’s Deception: Reflecting on John 10:10, where Jesus contrasts His life-giving purpose with the enemy’s destructive intent, Colton shared his realization that much of the world’s chaos, including the trials of the COVID-19 pandemic, can be attributed to the enemy’s schemes. He dismantled the misconception that God orchestrates harm to teach lessons, affirming instead that God’s plans are inherently good and designed to bring us prosperity and life in abundance.
- Redefining Prosperity: Colton confronted the often misunderstood concept of prosperity within Christian circles. Far from the negative connotations associated with the “prosperity gospel,” he explained that true prosperity, according to its definition, involves thriving, flourishing, and experiencing success. Colton argued that God desires this kind of prosperity for all His children, encouraging believers to seek and embrace the abundant life God offers.
- Access for All: In his final point, Colton emphasized that God’s plan is accessible to everyone, regardless of age or background. Citing the teaching of his home church, The Belonging Co. in Nashville, he reminded listeners that the same Holy Spirit who empowered Jesus is available to all who seek God with a sincere heart. Proverbs 3:5-6 further underscores this, promising that God will make our paths straight as we trust and submit to Him.
Colton’s devotional concluded with a heartfelt prayer, inviting listeners to draw closer to God and seek His plan for their lives. The episode wrapped up with the premiere of his new song “Up + Up,” which echoes the themes discussed and serves as a musical reminder of God’s unfailing promise to guide and uplift us.
As always, The Walk Podcast continues to inspire and challenge listeners to deepen their faith and walk in the light of God’s word. Colton Dixon’s transparent and passionate sharing in this episode offers a timely reminder of the hope and future that God promises to all who trust in Him.
