As a songwriter, why is it important to pursue beauty in your craft?
I asked this question to some critically-acclaimed songwriters of faith-inspired music, and here are their thoughtful responses.
The music for the church that moves me the most, personally, is music that comes out of musical community. Songs that come out of groups who are living and loving and learning together seem to have a particular potency—whether that’s two or two hundred people. So my advice would be, find your muses and your mentors and write about the things that are touching your lives.
We sat down with the Bethel Worship couple Jonathan and Melissa Helser (No Longer Slaves & Raise A Hallelujah) fresh off the release of Bethel’s latest release entitled, Revival’s In the Air to understand the heart behind the project and the story behind the song.
After more stories of hardship, I asked, “Are any of you frustrated with what your families went through back then and how it’s affected you all these years? I mean, I would be and I wouldn’t blame anyone who felt that way.”
