Lent

Greetings,

Lent is a significant period in the Christian liturgical calendar, observed over 40 days, starting with Ash Wednesday and ending with Holy Saturday, the day before Easter Sunday. This time frame mirrors the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the wilderness, enduring temptation by Satan.

Lent serves as a season of preparation, reflection, and penance, where Christians are called to deepen their spiritual life through practices such as prayer, fasting, repentance, and almsgiving. It is a time for believers to examine their hearts and lives, repent of their sins, and cultivate a closer relationship with God. The practice of fasting or giving up certain luxuries during Lent is a way to practice self-discipline and remember the sacrifices Jesus made.

The culmination of Lent is Holy Week, which commemorates the events of Jesus’ passion, death, and resurrection, central to Christian faith. Lent’s overarching purpose is to prepare believers for the celebration of Easter, where the resurrection of Jesus is celebrated as the victory over sin and death and the cornerstone of Christian hope.

In this sacred season, the faithful are invited to journey inwardly, to encounter and reflect on the depths of divine love demonstrated through Christ’s passion and to renew their commitment to live in accordance with the Gospel.
