Overview: The Shure QLXD24/B87A system is a combination of the QLXD4 Wireless receiver and the QLXD2/BETA87A wireless microphone transmitter. The receiver comes in a half-rack unit and features a backlit LCD screen detailing channel and signal information. Using Shure’s latest wireless technology, the QLX-D operates using 24bit digital audio for crystal clear sound.
Features: One of our favorite features about the QLX-D system is the ability to change microphone capsules quickly and easily. The ability to interchange a BETA 87A capsule for a SM58 capsule on the fly makes it easy to pair microphones with singers, which is especially helpful when working with weekly rotating vocalists in a church service. Pairing the transmitter to the receiver is as easy as pressing a button, and the receiver will automatically find the optimal open channel. Networking multiple QLX-D receivers is simple and straightforward and by pressing a button on a single unit, you can have all your QLX-D units find their own free channels. The entire system, receiver and transmitter both, are rugged and tough, built for the stage.
Application: QLX-D has a range of 300 feet, which is more than enough for even the
largest church stages. The BETA 87A capsule performs beautifully and captures a big, bold sound with an exceptional midrange. We especially liked the microphone on female vocalists because it preserved the natural low-mids without being muddy, while providing a nice presence peak in the upper midrange and high frequencies. The RF connection is rock-solid, and we experienced no dropouts or dead spots in our extensive test. Metering on the receiver is incredibly helpful for setting up gain and troubleshooting for the sound engineer and the interface of the receiver is simple and clear. Every inch of the QLX-D is incredibly well built and well thought out, making the wireless system one of the most reliable and easiest to use we’ve ever seen.
