Red Rocks Worship – Worship is Breath and Rest

When we interviewed Red Rocks Worship we had no idea that the answer to a simple question of “what is worship to you” would be so profound, passionate, and inspiring. 

Their Worship Sound Bite reminded us that the true nature of Jesus causes us to break out into rejoicing and praising Him. For instance, in Acts 3 when Peter healed the lame man he said;

6 But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” 7 And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. 8 And leaping up, he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. 9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God…

Healing is a part of God’s true nature and a representation of His love for us. It’s easy to praise and worship the Father after He heals us. How often, however, do we think of praising Him with every breath and what would our daily walk with Jesus look like if we lived in a constant state of worship? 

Obviously, that doesn’t mean to sing and dance all day (although, that would be fun to try), but it does mean worshipping Him so much in everything that we do that he is a part of the very breath we breathe.

I think worship has meant a lot of different things to me. At the very beginning, the genesis of it was that it was this musical experience. People would say like, “I’m here for the message, but I love the worship.” Right? And they would- they would talk about, “the worship music is so good.” So I quickly assimilated this word “Worship” with a musical experience with people.

You’re singing really loud next to people, and some of them are amazing and some of them, not so much, you know, whatever. And then as- as I started leading worship, I started experiencing this separation of, if that was my understanding of worship, then I had to be two people. There was a worship version of Corey and then there was, you hop off the stage and there’s this weird veil you walk through and you’re- you’re yourself.

And that didn’t work well at all. At all. It was legit split minded. And I remember reading verses like in James, it says, “A man that’s double minded is unstable in all of his ways.” And I experienced that. That was a very real reality for me. I was- I was two different versions of me. And I feel like worship has turned into breath and rest.

And there’s like this there’s this invitation as a worshiper, as a believer, to agree with true identity and kind of align yourself to what the Word says about me, us, all of us. When Jesus came and told us, He talked to us about our identity and for me, worship has now turned not just this musical experience, but it’s turned into all my drives and all of my friendships and all of my family relationships.

It’s turned into communication. And so it’s way bigger than a musical thing for me.
