“You called me yours and I’ll never be the same. You called me Loved; that’s my new name.”
Born out of a community with a flourishing emphasis on adoption, New Name punctuates the reality of becoming a new creation in Christ. There is a sweet parental love inherent in this picture of salvation and justification, as the family name we are given by God offers identity, authority, belonging, and a new future. As I listen to this song, I’m reminded of the shift in perspective that comes when we refer to the Parable of the Prodigal Son as the Story of the Lovesick Father. I’m thankful for this song and for my New Name.
