Jon Tyson – Worship is a Loving Confrontation
Jon Tyson is one of the Churches leading apologists, pastors, and authors. His intellectual defense of the truth of the Christian religion is on display weekly during sermons from his pulpit at Church of the City New York.
He’s originally from Adelaide Australia where he came to faith in the Planetshakers youth group led by Pastor Russell Evans. Jon moved to the United States over 2 decades ago with a passion to seek and cultivate renewal in the Western Church. He is the author of Sacred Roots, A Creative Minority, The Burden is Light, Beautiful Resistance: The Joy of Conviction in a Culture of Compromise, and The Intentional Father: A Practical Guide to Raise Sons of Courage and Character.
In a recent sermon Tyson took apart John 4 and the famous story of the Samaritan woman at the well and led listeners to a better understanding of worship.
Jon’s main point in the sermons is that “God is committed to satisfying your deepest desires by thrilling you with Himself” and that the natural response to God when confronted with His love is worship.
John:21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
She was confronted with the truth, given the ability to confess, and shown the Father’s love through a conversation with Jesus. That caused her radical transformation to manifest in an outpouring of the Spirit as she ran into town telling her story and through that confrontation rivers of living water poured out over a community that was hostile to any Jew and especially a Rabbi.
John:28 So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” 30 They went out of the town and were coming to him.
Revival came through confrontation with the truth and then her response was the freedom to truly worship; she was “thrilled” by His love.
John:39 Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. 41 And many more believed because of his word.
For those interested in the topic of worship, this sermon is a must view. For those interested in worshiping God in a way you’ve never experienced before, be ready to confront your truth, repent, and be freed. I dare you to try and avoid doing the “pentecostal pogo” after watching this talk. (That comment will only make sense if you view the sermon.)
